Eligibility Requirements


   1.  Elementary:  Teacher must have exemplified success in mathematics education in a public or private
        school.

        Middle School / Junior High:  Teacher must be assigned during the current school year at least 60%
        of the day to the classroom teaching of mathematics in a public or private middle / junior high
        school.    

        High School:  Teacher must be assigned during the current school year at least 60% of the day to the
        classroom teaching of mathematics in a public or private high school.

        College:  The teacher must be a full time instructor of mathematics at a community, junior, or senior
        college or university.
   2.  Teacher must have a minimum or three (3) years teaching experience in mathematics education.

    3. Teacher may be self-nominated or be nominated by colleagues or administrators.  Colleagues,
        administrators, students, or parents should submit letters of support.
   4.  The teacher must be a member of the Mississippi Council of Teachers of Mathematics.  The teacher
        may submit membership at time of application.  A membership form can be found on this site.
   5.  The deadline for postmark of the nomination is September 15, 2008.

    6. Recipients of the Presidential Awards for Excellence in Mathematics teaching for the last five (5)
        years are not eligible.
   7.  Each recipient will be expected to attend the MCTM session at the Fall Conference,
        November 14-15, 2008 in Biloxi, MS.  An award of $100 and a plaque will be presented to
        each recipient.

    8. All applications must be typed and double-spaced.  Attachments other than two letters of
        recommendations will be disregarded.
